Cosmic 8 Ball respects your privacy. Most profile and app data stays on your device. Reading and usage information may be transmitted when the default-enabled Oracle Learning Program is on, and you can disable it at any time in Settings.
Cosmic 8 Ball is an entertainment app that generates astrology-inspired answers to your questions using your zodiac sign and real-time celestial conditions — live planetary positions, moon phase, retrograde detection, and the ancient planetary hour system.

Responses are generated by a procedural celestial computation engine and should not replace professional medical, legal, financial, or mental health advice. Always trust your own judgment when making important decisions.
The app stores the following information locally using device storage:
Profile details, settings, and history remain on the device until you change or clear them, clear the app's data through the operating system, or uninstall the app. You can clear the saved reading history from the History screen. Clearing app data or uninstalling removes the app's locally stored data. There is no Cosmic 8 Ball account to delete.
The locally stored question and answer history is separate from the limited reading information transmitted through the Oracle Learning Program described below. Your zodiac sign is calculated locally but is included in that analytics payload when analytics is enabled. Your other astrology profile fields are not included in the analytics payload.
During setup, Cosmic 8 Ball asks for a birth date, a birth time or an indication that the time is unknown, and a birth location. Depending on the location, the saved information can include city, state/province, country, coordinates, and time zone. The app also stores the first name and last initial you enter. This information is used to:
Birth location is selected from location data bundled with the app; Cosmic 8 Ball does not request your device's current GPS location for profile setup. Your first name, last initial, birth date, birth time, birth location fields, coordinates, and time zone are stored locally and are not included in the analytics payload. The zodiac sign calculated from your profile is included when analytics is enabled. Profile information is not sold or used for advertising targeting.
To improve the quality of cosmic guidance over time, Cosmic 8 Ball includes a reading and usage analytics feature called the Oracle Learning Program. Analytics is enabled by default. You can disable it at any time in Settings. When enabled, the following information is transmitted after a completed reading:
The payload is sent via HTTPS to a Google Apps Script web endpoint and stored in an access-controlled Google Sheets spreadsheet owned by the developer. Google provides the Apps Script and Sheets infrastructure and may process the transmission and storage under Google's applicable service terms. The developer does not sell this information or provide it to advertising networks or data brokers.
Analytics data is used to improve the Pantheon Engine's answer quality, variety, topic coverage, and overall user experience. It is not used for advertising targeting or cross-app tracking.
You can disable analytics at any time inside the app: Settings → Oracle Learning Program → toggle off. When disabled, new completed readings are not transmitted by the Oracle Learning Program. Your opt-out preference is stored locally on your device and persists across app sessions.
The current analytics system does not enforce a fixed automatic expiration period. Analytics rows remain in the private spreadsheet until they are manually removed by the developer.
You may send an analytics deletion request to support@populationplusone.com with “Cosmic 8 Ball analytics deletion request” in the subject line. The analytics payload has no account or persistent device identifier, so the developer cannot automatically identify which rows belong to you. Include enough information to search for matching rows, such as the approximate date and time, question text, mode, and zodiac sign. Matching rows can be deleted when they can be reliably identified; if the supplied information is insufficient, it may not be possible to locate the rows.
Responses in Cosmic 8 Ball are produced by a procedural celestial computation engine running entirely on your device. The engine uses Meeus orbital algorithms to calculate real-time positions for all 8 planets, detects moon phase and retrograde status, applies the ancient Chaldean planetary hour system, and scores your sun sign against current sky conditions to produce a dynamic cosmic alignment score.
All calculations run locally within the app. No AI service or language model is used. The question you type is used to classify the topic and generate your personalized reading, and it is included in the Oracle Learning Program payload when analytics is enabled.
Cosmic 8 Ball includes an optional voice input feature. If you choose to use it:
Microphone access is entirely optional. You can type your questions instead and decline microphone permission without affecting any other app feature.
If voice output is enabled, Cosmic 8 Ball sends generated answer text to the text-to-speech engine configured on your device so the answer can be spoken aloud. The app does not record the spoken output. Text-to-speech engines differ: some synthesize entirely on the device, while others may use a provider's network service depending on the installed engine, voice, operating-system settings, and provider terms. Cosmic 8 Ball does not control those provider-specific processing choices. You can disable voice output in the app's settings.
Cosmic 8 Ball may request permission to send local notifications (e.g., a daily cosmic pull reminder). If you grant permission:
Notifications are optional. The app is fully functional without them.
The app uses your device's motion sensors (accelerometer) to detect shake gestures for submitting questions. Sensor data is used only in real time and is never stored or transmitted.
Cosmic 8 Ball can use the Google Apps Script and Google Sheets analytics infrastructure described above. Optional speech recognition and text-to-speech may also use the provider configured on your device. No advertising SDK, Firebase Analytics, Sentry, account/login service, or payment service is used by the current app.
The app contains cross-promotion links to Written in the Stars (our companion horoscope app). Tapping these links opens your device's browser or the app store — no data is sent from the app itself when you tap these links.
There are no advertising networks, social media SDKs, or third-party data brokers integrated into the app.
Cosmic 8 Ball does not request the following as profile or account fields:
If you voluntarily include personal or sensitive information in a typed or dictated question, it can be included in analytics when the Oracle Learning Program is enabled. The limited redaction described above should not be treated as a guarantee that all such information will be removed.

Analytics transmissions use HTTPS, and the destination spreadsheet is access-controlled. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Avoid entering sensitive personal information in questions.
Cosmic 8 Ball is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us so we can review the request and remove matching information when it can be reliably identified.
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date above and may notify you through the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
